Martial arts are practiced for a variety of different reasons including self-defense, physical fitness, entertainment, and competition. They all require a different amount of force and power, as well as flexibility. Whether it’s Tae Kwon Do, BJJ, Aikido, Karate or Kendo, our physical therapists will customize your treatment plan to suit the needs of your martial arts.
Muscle strains, ligament sprains, tendon injuries, and other repetitive stress related problems account for majority of injuries. Overuse may occur due to muscular imbalances, insufficient power/strength ratio, or instability that results in inefficiency of movement and overuse.
At Elite Sports Physical Therapy, our Martial Arts Recovery and Rehabilitation involves improving your overall flexibility and strength, improving muscular control and joint stability through a dynamic, movement-based program. We often combine hand-eye coordination and reactive training to improve explosiveness, power and speed. In order to prevent re-injury upon return to sport, our patients often progress through advanced agility and plyometrics drills. We believe that when appropriate, there is always a way to integrate your passion for martial arts into your physical therapy program.
