Physical Therapy Treatment for People and Athletes Involved In Recreational & Competitive Swimming
Without a doubt, shoulder pain and injuries are the most common injuries which contribute to swimmer’s experiencing pain in the water. These injuries can often be a result of muscular imbalances and altered control and stability of the shoulder girdle. While injuries are often due to overuse from long practices or preparation for swim tournaments, swim coaches have also remarked that injuries can occur due to poor stroke mechanics over time.
It’s important to receive proper coaching to address stroke mechanics, however at Elite Sports Physical Therapy, we first start with treating your area of pain and progress through a movement-based program. To restore mechanics for the swimmer’s shoulder, a variety of land-band based exercises are important for strengthening the upper back and rotator cuff.
