Return to Throwing Program
Physical Therapy Treatment for People and Athletes Involved in Baseball, Cricket, Water Polo, Football
Throwing sports like Baseball, Cricket, Water Polo, and Football require an immense level of shoulder mobility, strength, stability, power, and precision. It is often an imbalance of these that creates an overuse injury. Commonly shoulder injuries may affect the rotator cuff, the labrum, or biceps tendon. Additionally, shoulder and elbow injuries common to throwing sports may be a result of a weakness of the core and/or the lower body which results in overuse or excessive strain to the shoulder and elbow.
At Elite Sports Physical Therapy, we first start with treating your area of pain and strengthen the muscles surrounding this region. We will progress to an assessment of your overall form and technique of your sport and analyze how you utilize and move your entire body, including your core and lower body. We may recommend strengthening outside your area of pain and provide you a full-body approach to address your sports injury.
We often combine hand-eye coordination and reactive training to improve explosiveness, power, and speed. In order to prevent re-injury upon return to sport, our patients often progress through advanced agility and plyometrics drills so that our athletes can return to the field without the risk of re-injury.
